Lassa Fever (LF) is an acute viral hemorrhagic fever disease. Meaning its caused by a virus(lassa virus) and associated with sudden fever and bleeding disorders from orifices(mouth, nose, ear, eyes, anus, vagina etc).lassafever-(1).png

Lassa fever is transmitted by ingestion of food or water contaminated with feaces, urine, blood, saliva of an infected rat(rodents) or by contact with body fluids of an infected person.

Lassa fever is not air borne.

Symptoms of LF include Fever, headache, weakness, body/muscle pains, cough, chest pain, diarrhea, low blood pressure, and later bleeding from mouth, nose,vagina, anus , ears etc , coma and ultimately death.

These symptoms are not specific to only Lassa fever hence the need to ensure proper personal hygiene (regular hand washing,)store foods in airtight containers , clear bushes and refuse dumps arround your environment, report and suspicion case, protect yourself while attending to sick persons with (face mask, google, and elbow length gloves and gowns).
